The Professional Scrum Master (PSM) course is a 2-day Live Virtual Instructor Led Mode Training that covers the principles and (empirical) process theory underpinning the mechanics, rules, and roles of the Scrum framework. Advanced tools for servant-leadership are provided to increase a Scrum Master’s effectiveness. These tools relate to behavioral shifts, working with people and teams, coaching and facilitation techniques, and addressing the organization.

You cannot get PSM™ I certified without undertaking the course. Scrum.org believes that true learning requires in-person/online training and hands-on experience with PSTs or recognized trainers. The PSM I exam is not provided as a substitute for formal training.

The PSM™ I certification is offered by the Scrum.org, a world-renowned body dedicated to helping professionals, leaders, and organizations embrace agile by understanding its principles, processes, and values.

STEP 1: Attend a face-to-face course taught by Professional Scrum Trainer  (PSTs) or receive private coaching

STEP 4: As soon as you complete the online exam and get a minimum score of 85%, you can download the PSM I certification if you have passed the exam.

There are no prerequisites to take the Professional Scrum Master™ I (PSM I) training. However, basic knowledge of Scrum in a real-world context is helpful, though not mandatory.

The PSM™ certification exam (also referred to as assessment) is an online, open-book exam. The format is:

  • 80 multiple choice questions and True/False questions
  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Pass mark: 85%

While both focus on the role of the Scrum Master, PSM I goes above & beyond the Scrum Guide. The examination for the PSM I is tougher to pass than the CSM ® and requires some practical know-how.
